Arbroath Instrumental Band

Competing in the 2009 Scottish Championships at the Caird Hall, Dundee, on Saturday 21st March. The band gave a “great performance” to win first place in the Section 2, thereby gaining promotion to Section 1 and the opportunity to compete in the National Finals at Harrogate later in the year.

The Band showed their form once again at the Fife Brass Band Festival held at Dunfermline on 28th April, winning the First Prize in the Second Section

Arbroath Instrumental Band had a great result in the Northern Counties competition held in the Reid Hall, Forfar on Sunday 24th May.

 

The band were first in the second section and Eb Bass player Ross Knight was awarded best soloist.

 

Soprano cornet player Calum Tonner also won best soprano cornet, an award donated by Joyce Ferguson in memory of her late husband Neil who was secretary of NCBBA and a member of Granite City Brass

On Saturday 20th June the band shared the stage with The Tayside Symphony Orchestra at the Caird Hall, Dundee. Taking over for the second half of the concert, the band opened with “Horizons”, followed by”Slavische Fantasie”, a cornet solo featuring principal cornet player Eoin Tonner. This was followed by “Mansions of the Lord” then “Laudate Dominum”. As an encore the band played “The Bare Necessities” featuring Eb bass player Ross Knight. The concert ended with the band and orchestra combining to play Andrew Duncan’s “The Declaration of Arbroath”.
